Media Plan - The undergraduate media planning course provides an in-depth understanding of the fundamental concepts, theories, and practices related to media planning in the field of communications. Students develop a comprehensive knowledge base to design effective media plans and strategies that drive successful advertising campaigns. They also learn how to use the Media Flight Plan software to spend an annual budget. Student examples below. Clients included: Hershey’s Kisses, Tesla, Izze Sparkling Juice, Altoids, Fiji Water, and Pepperidge Farm Milano Cookies.
graphic design I (SPRING 2020 - instructor of record, indiana university)
Logo Concept Challenge - Students designed and vectorized their own logos using Adobe Illustrator. They then created concept art to show potential product placements including advertisements.
graphic design II (Fall 2019 - instructor of record, indiana university)
Motion Graphics - Students were tasked with choosing a song and creating a kinetic typographic visual element to go with the song. This was many students’ first time using AfterEffects.
Infographic - Students chose a specific topic to research and turn into a poster that conveyed their message to an appropriate audience.
Typography - Students learned the history of typography and then developed an original typeface inspired from a 3D form.
Patterns - Students investigated a specific region around the world and researched common art practices of the time and area. They then created pattern swatches to represent what they had learned. Some topics included kente cloths of Ghana, impressionist paintings of 19th century France, postmodernism, and classic Matisse paintings.
Vector Self Portrait - They began the semester with a project to refresh their Illustrator skills with a more personal touch to think about how to represent themselves beyond a photograph representation.
graphic design I (spring 2019 - instructor of record, indiana university)
HTML & CSS - Students were tasked with finding their own journalistic articles and designing a website to display the content. Majority of the students had little to zero previous experience with CSS & HTML. The students used Atom to build their website.
Movie Poster - Students designed a movie or streaming show poster that was influenced by a well-known graphic designer that they researched and presented on to the class.
Augmented Reality + Magazine Design - Students had the freedom to choose an online article of their interest and then design it into a print magazine design utilizing their layout knowledge. Once their designs were finalized, they used ROAR AR to add augmented reality content to their spreads.
VISUAL COMMUNICATION (FALL 2018 - ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR, INDIANA UNIVERSITY)
Magazine Design - Students had to create a magazine design based on their first project, the Picture Story. The Picture Story consisted of them taking photographs of an event and then writing a journalistic interpretation of the event.
Video Project - Students were tasked with finding an interesting topic or event to document and edit into a final video. They had to interview people, do a voice over, and get adequate b-roll for a successful project.
DIGITAL ART I (Fall 2016 - GRADUATE ASSISTANT, LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY)
Line & Dot - Students used Adobe Illustrator to create compositions that reflected pair words such as, “organized & chaotic”, “fluid & rigid”, and “tension & stable”. They were only allowed to use the ellipse and line tools.
Pattern Swatches - Students chose an artist, culture, art movement or animal, etc. to develop pattern swatches inspired from what they had chosen. They had to come up with 10 different patterns that kept the principles and elements in mind.
Vector Portrait - Students created a photograph portrait of their choice and then used Adobe Illustrator’s pen tool to transform the photo into a vector graphic. This was the students’ first time using the pen tool.
